Write a story, free your mind!

Well, it seems I’ve run out of stuff to write about… I’m sure if I tried really really hard I could think of some good stories but to be honest most of my posts have been either rants or thoughts and feelings that I’ve never really shared, they’ve been building up over the years because I’ve always felt like it’s inappropriate to share those with other people. It’s kind of only recently, in the last few months that I actually learned to both listen and share with other people. Surprisingly it actually makes you feel a whole lot better.
Since I’ve been writing I feel so much lighter, like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. It’s kind of a relief, except that now I don’t have any exciting stories… I do find it easier to talk to people now though, although that could be all the drinking I’ve been doing recently. OMG I need to stop drinking so much, I mean it’s great socialising, I’ve met some pretty cool people recently who I wouldn’t have met if I hadn’t been out drinking so I guess it’s not all bad…
But it is starting to be a distraction from the goals I planned with my programming mission, I’m kind of back to the point of re-evaluation, where I need to re-adjust my work-life-mission balance. Just like business grows and changes daily, so does life and although the same principle concepts may work time and time again, they certainly need to be able to adapt to allow for current and future imbalances. There is also the point that the things I’m now trying to learn are far more complex than simple object oriented programming and complex but extremely user friendly frameworks like Rails.
Although at times I feel like I am not getting anywhere and that I have not accomplished as much as I would like to recently, I do keep trying to remember that even though I don’t necessarily have a physical or visual finished product it doesn’t mean that I haven’t learned something useful. You see the things I am trying to learn about now relate to Networking and it can be difficult to visualise in the same way as an app that I have begun to build. Never-the-less I have in the last two weeks I have learned a great deal about DNS, web-routing and cloud servers.
There are some technical articles on the way but as I hadn’t fully understood a number of the concepts so I didn’t want to post them until I had done more research and practice, and actually got stuff working right. As a wise mentor of mine continually tells me
“Do not produce or tolerate shit.”
Although he says that in reference to code, I do believe you can apply that rule to many areas of life – particularly when posting potentially ‘helpful’ articles on the internet because to be frank, there are far too many out there which are incomplete or inaccurate. Sure people are learning and they want feedback, I’m kind of in that bracket but man, when stuff is really wrong it really really messes you up trying to learn. Oooh look at that <= I do have something to rant about after all haha. It’s crazy how every time I start writing, I just don’t stop. Even when I think I’ve got nothing to write about!
Anyway, I don’t really know what the point of this post was or where it was going but I guess it’s just me saying I am still here, there will be more great posts in the future and hopefully some far more technical articles on the way.
